Institute of Thai Studies at Chulalongkorn University in collaboration with the Centre for Education and International Development, IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, University College London organised a regional conference on Education in challenging environments: Promoting peace, trust and sustainable development in ASEAN countries in Bangkok, Thailand on 28th-29th July 2022.
The conference focused on debates about politics of education, well-being of learners and educators in challenging environments and the role of the state and grassroots organisations in promoting peace and justice via educational activities. The conference brought together scholars and practitioners who were researching and working on education and development in the ASEAN+3 countries and other contexts that had been affected by violent conflicts and forced displacement.
The conference was co-chaired by Professor Tejendra Pherali and Chawin Pongpajon, members of the Peace with Justice network and Professor Elaine Chase delivered a keynote speech on Promoting wellbeing through education in challenging environments.
The Peace with Justice Network members from ethnic education groups in Myanmar and Southern Thailand presented their research on educational priorities, challenges and possible educational response to conflict and promotion of peace with social justice
