Edith is a ñuu savi (people of the rain) woman originally from the ejido of Zitlaltepec, municipality of MetlatĂłnoc, in the high mountains of Guerrero. For the past 15 years she has worked for various organisations in the mountain region, collaborating in women’s and youth collectives for the promotion of the collective rights of indigenous peoples to territory, food, health, culture and education and with the aim of encouraging the reconstruction of community life based on ancient knowledge and knowledge.

Edith completed a degree in Social Anthropology at the Autonomous Metropolitan University in Mexico City and since 2012 has worked as a teacher at the National Pedagogical University, in Tlapa de Comonfort, Guerrero. She teaches a degree aimed at training young indigenous professionals to strengthen the community development of their peoples.  She currently coordinates TIKOSĂ“, which provides an alternative Cultural and Educational Space for indigenous migrant women and children who come to settle in the regional capital as a result of violence, displacement and precariousness in their territories of origin. The objective of the space is to promote the reconnection of traditional knowledge and practices with children and young people as an alternative that allows them to rebuild the territories of life.

Edith es mujer ñuu savi (pueblo de la lluvia) originaria del ejido de zitlaltepec, municipio de Metlatónoc, en la Montaña alta de Guerrero. En los últimos 15 años ha trabajado en diversos procesos organizativos en la región montaña, colaborando en colectivos de mujeres y juventudes para la promoción de los derechos colectivos de pueblos indígenas al territorio, alimentación, salud, cultura y educación. Con el objetivo de incentivar la reconstrucción de la vida comunitaria a partir de saberes y conocimientos milenarios.

Cursó la Licenciatura en Antropología Social en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana en la Ciudad de México. Desde el 2012 hasta la fecha, ha trabajado como docente en la Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, en Tlapa de Comonfort, Guerrero en una licenciatura orientada a formar a jóvenes profesionistas indigenas que fortalezcan el desarrollo comunitario de sus pueblos.

Actualmente coordina TIKOSÓ.Espacio Cultural y Educativo. Una propuesta alternativa para las mujeres y niñez indígena migrante, quienes llegan a radicar en la cabecera regional. Y que en medio de contextos de violencia, desplazamientos y precariedades que viven en sus territorios. El objetivo del espacio es promover la reconexión de saberes y prácticas tradicionales con los niños y jóvenes como una alternativa que permita reconstruir los territorios de vida.
